The broth is great – very beefy and tasty! The veggies and bits are wonderful – excellent veggies and the bits must be beef – if they’re not, they’re the most convincing pieces of TVP I’ve ever had. The noodles are good – they suck up a lot of liquid and are tasty to boot. The broth is nice too – had a spicy and sweet taste to it and the beef flavor is very good. This rather unassuming package of ramen came from Bo H. of China. I don’t know if this is exactly what this is called, but I hope it comes close to its name in taste. Potatoes aren’t something commonly found when it comes to instant noodles; there’s sweet potato noodles and potato noodles, but really nothing that involved potato flavor.

The broth and noodles come together masterfully and this honestly tastes so good I’m going to say I’m truly sad I don’t have any more of it! It literally tastes like a dish centering on beef and potatoes. I love it. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars – hands down awesome stuff. The bits and pieces weren’t bad either although very scant. The broth has a nice spiciness to is and a good meaty flavor. Expected it to be slightly thick and greasy but it wasn’t. A nice pepperiness to is. The vegetables were good too – nice re-gydration. Here’s one that’s been kind of confusing in the past, and it still is. A guy who said he worked for Master Kong said these aren’t actually Master Kong. When I check the UPC code, it comes up with Kailo Brand Abalone Chicken flavor in a similar sized big cup. Whatever it is, let’s check it out!

Here’s one that was donated by a reader from Sweden! Thanks! It’s funny; you really can’t find any Master Kong noodles here in the United States which is a real bummer. They’re really good – hopefully they’ll be here at some point. What’s tough about Master Kong packs is that they don’t seem to say how much water to add in. For a pack this size, I’ve gone with 500ml before, so I’ll go with 500ml again.

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge). Looks to contain chicken. To prepare, add noodle block and vegetable sachet to 500ml boiling water and cook for 4 minutes. Add in remaining sachet contents and stir. Enjoy!

The Chinese consume billions of packages of instant noodles a year and I’ve never done a Chinese Meet The Manufacturer yet! It’s about time. The broth has a good thickness. The flavor is a realistic pork flavor and the paste thickened it up surprisingly well. The vegetables hydrated quite well; cabbage crisp and (possibly) pork crunchies were good as well. 4.5 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 6900873710560.

Here’s another one sent by a kind reader in Sweden – thanks again! Also want to thank Bobby Y. of Canada for his great help with translating! He’s always been a great help and I truly appreciate it! With all the recent Chinese readers, I thought I’d review a Chinese instant noodle today. These Master Kong varieties are usually quite good. This one’s really big – calls for 700ml water! That’s definitely on the higher end of broth. The noodle block is also quite large with a different gauge than other I’ve tried – looks to be thicker. It also mentions that it’s a ‘cooking’ noodle as opposed to an instant. Cooking noodles require time spent on the stove while instants can either be cooked on the stove or simply put in a bowl and boiling water added, covered and let sit for 3 minutes or so to be done. Let’s have a look at this one from Master Kong – really hoping Master Kong contacts me soon – wouyld love to do a Meet The Manufacturer with them!

The noodles are really quite good – they have a thick gauge and remind me of the yellow noodles I had in Malaysia, although a but less chewy. The broth has a very nice kind of braised beef flavor; detectable notes of anise and a good oiliness. Despite the large about of water used, the broth is not thin in any way and quite flavorful. The vegetables sachet content came out pretty well – cabbage and carrot hydrated well while onion was only so-so. The bits that I was on the fence about being beef or textured vegetable protein appear to be beef and hydrated well. 4.25 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 6900873058624.

They have an enjoyable chew to them. The broth is great – a definitely spicy kind of braised beef taste. The heat isn’t overwhelming but just the right amount.  Far and few between are the Master Kong varieties I find locally. This is one of them I got a couple months ago – a real surprise. I don’t know why so many of them aren’t available in the United States; I’m guessing possibly that many of their products contain chicken or beef, and import of chicken or beef into the United States from Asia is very hard if not impossible. Luckily, fish products are generally accepted for import quite easily and here we are. Let’s check out this  Master Kong Seafood instant noodle!

Here’s the import/distributor’s sticker (click image to enlarge). What’s interesting is that it’s being called artificial, it does contain shrimp.

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge). While these products don’t have instructions on how to cook them, I generally do the same thing with all of them. Add noodle block and sachet contents to 500ml boiling water. Cook for 3 minutes and enjoy!

There’s a new Asian Food Center on 130th & Aurora – went there hunting for some of the fruit I got to try in Thailand and found mangosteen – and quite a few instant noodle varieties, this being one of them. It’s pretty far and few between that I find Master Kong varieties – always kind of a treat! I want to thank Bobby Y. from Canada for help in translation on this one! Let’s have a look at this one from China!

It seemed a little ridiculous to me, but she would stumble over the word repeatedly and it would sound like massive two shits. Anyways, this one seems interesting – why assorted pork bone? Are they from different kinds of pigs? Well, let’s give this one a try!

After quite a few years, its looking more and more like Kang Shi Fu (Master Kong) is definitely getting their products distributed into the United States. This one was sent to me by a reader named Colin (thanks again!) and is definitely different from most of the Mang Shiu Fu stuff I’ve seen. First, there’s a lot of English on the package; something very new to me. Stewed beef sounds good – let’s have a look inside.

So these have always been interesting; they have the little chef guy much like Kang Shi Fu (Master Kong), but often the bar code search will come up with Kailo brand. This morning, I called the number on the back and they gave me another number, and they gave me an email address. I emailed the address I was given and will get the info on what brand this is exactly when they reply – and hopefully they do. Prok ribs – let’s do this!

恭喜发财 and Happy Lunar New Year to all! I had a look at my lists I hadn’t updated in a while and saw it was in January of 2014 last I did a top ten Chinese list. Why so long? Well, I like to have done quite a few reviews in a year when it comes to country lists for that specific country. If I’d done only two and there weren’t any big changes, I’ll kind of let it go until the next year. This one seemed ripe and ready for a new version. Of the almost 150 reviews I’ve done of Chinese instant noodles, these are my favorites. #10: Sichuan Baijia Broad Noodle Chilli Oil Flavor

So The noodles are very broad and hydrated well. They have a nice chewiness to them. The flavor is excellent – a nice oily spiciness, a slight sweetness and a kind of puckery taste as well. The vegetable hydrated very well. Original review here

#9: Master Kong Tomato Sauce Instant Noodle

The noodles are about double the width of a standard instant noodle and flat. Very floppy but very nice in this application. The broth is indeed tomato flavored, and has a nice tomato taste at that. The included vegetables hydrated perfectly – all the way down to the peas. Original review here

#8: Baixiang Noodles Sauerkraut Flavor Instant Noodle

You might be thinking ‘sauerkraut?’ But actually, pickled cabbage as well as other vegetables are quite popular throughout Asia. The noodles are a little wide and flat. The are really very good and there’s a lot of them. The broth has a rich flavor – the sauerkraut’s bitterness is there, but also a kind of artificial meat flavor that works well. #7: JML (Jin Mai Lang) Spicy King Spicy Beef Instant Noodle

The noodles are perfect – plump and plentiful. The broth is wonderful – perfect oiliness and heat and beef flavor. The heat tastes like it’s coming from Sichuan peppers. The vegetables in the powder sachet hydrated very well. The supplied seaweed is perfect. Original review here

#6: Wugudaochang Sour Soup & Minced Meat Flavor Chef’s Grain Naked Oat Noodles

The noodles have a standard instant gauge. They have just the right backbone to them – good texture and chew. The broth is extremely good – a tart beef flavor with good oiliness to it. The carrot and beef are excellent! Like a gourmet vegetable beef noodle. Original review here

#5: Sichuan Baijia Chongqing Noodles Spicy Hot Flavor

The noodles are thin and flat with a medium width. They really work well here. The broth is a very spicy beef with a Sichuan pepper hit among others. There are sesame seeds throughout and the bits of vegetables in there were great. Original review here

#4: JML (Jin Mai Lang) Spicy King Spicy Chicken Instant Noodle

The noodles came out very nicely – lots of them and of good texture and chew. The broth has a great spiciness – still worthy of the top ten spicy list. Sichuan pepper for sure. Nice color and oiliness in the broth as well. Original review here

#3: Sichuan Baijia Chongqing Noodles Burning Dry Noodles

I mean wow! I wasn’t sure of what to expect here, but this is really great! The noodles are extremely plentiful and really soft and floppy. This is perfect as the seasonings and liquids combine with them very well. The flavor is like an almost beefy and tasty lasagna but with Sichuan pepper and other spices going on. Moreover, the more you eat, the spicier it gets – heat, upon heat, upon heat! The pain! I really expected this to probably be really salty and have a strong vinegar taste but I was completely mistaken. I love this. Original review here

#2: JML (Jin Mai Lang) Spicy King Spicy Pork Instant Noodle

The noodles came out nice and plump and there’s a good amount of them. The broth has a fiery spiciness and great flavor to it. I really have to say the red chillies add a very nice hit of spice and vegetable elements. Original review here

#1: Wugudaochang Tomato Beef Brisket Flavor Purple Potato Noodle

The noodles, made from purple potatoes have a nice texture to them – a little sturdier than your garden variety instant and they were very nice to chew. The broth is a thick beef and tomato affair, with a very luxuriant and rich texture to it – almost creamy in a way. The inclusion of large pieces of tomato and real beef brisket in there was admirable and very enjoyable. Premium bowl of noodles. Original review here
